ARTIST STATEMENT

"When something pop-up in my mind, I want to draw it out. The cartoonish, cute, and stylized art style is what I pursue. My art style can be general and similar to many; however, my artistic voice is distinct and unique."

Hello! My name is Truc Tran, a Digital Media Arts student from SJSU. My family immigrated to the United States when I was 15 years old. I am an introverted person, so I use drawing to express my thoughts, ideas, and personality. I like to express my ideas, my thoughts by drawing on paper, and then I color them with colored pencils and colored markers.

After I learned about digital art, I understood that digital art does not only refer to drawing on the computer. Digital art is very diverse, which involves 2D/3D computer graphics, 2D/3D digital painting, motion graphics, motion pictures, digital college, pixel art. I believe the combination of computer graphics, art, and sound will create a lively and vibrant artwork. So, I start to learn and use digital materials for my artwork. As a result, I have produced a variety of digital artworks. I create digital creates artworks by using Adobe Create Suite, Clip Studio Paint, and Procreate. Besides, I am also interested in creating artworks using colored pencils, markers, so I combined traditional materials with digital materials to create traditional and digital mix artworks.

I am interested in and want to learn more about two aspects of digital media arts: game art and animation/motion graphics. I love game art because they look very cool, especially pixel art. Pixel is reminiscent of the classic video game I played as a child. I love playing video games; however, I also want to create a video game to express my ideas, concept of art, stories, and characters. I believe game art is the best place for me to utilize my drawings and apply my art style. Besides game art, I also love motion graphics/ animation. I believe that animation allows me to tell stories through my drawings. Moreover, the animation enables my stories to have more vibrancy due to the sound mix. I want to tell fun and positive stories through my animation. Hopefully, everyone can reach the joyful and happiness through them.
